Arsenal Vs Sunderland: Fabregas strike saves the day for Arsenal

The inconsistent form of Arsenal continued, as they barely manage to salvage a 1-1 draw against Roy Keane’s Sunderland at the Stadium of Lights.

Keane has been saying in the past that his side needs to be tough and rough, as being nice doesn’t win you anything. Against Gunners, Sunderland didn’t disappoint.

They played a mean game from the start and didn’t allow Arsenal to get past them, even though the latter had better part of the ball possession.

Although the attack through Cisse was not impactful and very few chances came across their way, Sunderland was the first to break the deadlock through substitutes Grant Leadbitter’s goal in the 86th minute.

Black Cats could have won the game but only an injury time goal from Spanish International Cesc Fabregas saved the day for the Gunners.

Fabregas headed home a van Persie corner to make it 1-1 and help Arsenal in salvaging a point from the game.

Arsene Wenger will be disappointed with his side’s performance. They came into the game after a disappointing 2-1 loss to newly promoted Hull at home.

Now, they have slipped to the third position with 13 points from 7 games. Villa and Manchester United might displace Gunners from the current position, as both of them have a game left.

Elsewhere at JJB Stadium, Wigan Athletic lost 1-0 to Middlesbrough in a keenly contested game. Struggling Boro’s unlikely hero was Jeremie Aliadiere. He scored in the 89th minute of the match to register a win for his side.
