Barton Arrested Again
December 28, 2007
Not to many people’s surprise, 25-year old Joey Barton, Newcastle and England midfielder was again taken into police custody after an alleged assault early Thursday morning. Barton has had a significant history of disciplinary problems in the past years including an assault charge after attacking former Manchester City team mate, a bar fight, taking part on a racist attack, putting a lit cigar into the eye of a team mate and starting a brawl on the field during a pre-season friendly against Doncaster in 2004. It seems like people have been used to the young fellow’s getting into trouble.
Barton was arrested together with two other young fellows whose charges were linked with the same incident. 19-year old Andrew Barton from Widnes has been charged with actual physical harm and fight and has been released on bail while 27-year old Nadine Wilson from Huyton, Merseyside has also been charged with common assault and affray and was likewise released on bail. The three are all summoned to attend a hearing at theLiverpool City Magistrates Court on Friday.
Barton was never far away from controversy in the past two years, earning him even more criticisms from the club’s fans. During the final straw for Barton, he was drawn in a training ground brawl with team-mate Ousmane Dabo resulting to the Frenchman’s hospital treatment due to an injury. Barton was then suspended by his own club because of his behavior. Last June 2007, he left his club to sign for Newcastle United for £5.5m.
