Behind the Premier League
December 13, 2007
The Premier League is extremely popular with fans that like to watch live football. It’s also referred to among fans as The Premiership. It’s a professional football competition dedicated to the best clubs in English football. It’s the most important competition of its kind in Britain, and the title is currently contested by twenty clubs. This competition exists since 1992, and its first games were held in August that year. Since then, it has become extremely popular, and the club revenues have also grown immensely. You can watch live football online and see some of the most spectacular matches from this competition.
Throughout time, forty clubs gave competed in the Premier League. Most of them can be seen playing when you watch live football online. Amazingly enough, though, only four clubs have ever managed to win the grand title. These are Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers, Arsenal, and Chelsea. Manchester United currently holds the title, and they recently won it for the ninth time. They are also the ones with the most wins (nine in total). If you watch live football, you’ll also have the privilege of seeing these champions perform at their best.
It all started in the mid 80s, when English football was in a bit of a rut. It was its lowest point yet: facilities were extremely poor, hooligans ruled the stadiums, stadiums were coming to pieces and English clubs were being banned from various European Competitions. This was because of what happened at Heysel in 1985, a moment known as the darkest hour in the history of UEFA competitions. What happened was that in the final, between Liverpool and Juventus, English hooligans attacked Italian supporters; this made them back on to a wall which eventually collapsed and killed many of them. 39 people were killed in total, and all British clubs were banned from the competition, with 3 extra years for Liverpool itself. This was rather sad as Liverpool were among the best in that period (they can also be seen when you watch live football).
Getting back to the mid 80’s situation – several players had moved abroad (this is, however, completely different from the present situation, when British clubs have among the highest revenues in the whole world and all the best of players, from abroad or not, come to play here – and the best part is that they can all be seen when you watch live football). However, things began looking up around 1990 after England did well in the FIFA world cup, the five year ban was finally lifted and stadiums began getting improved thoroughly. If you enjoy watching live football online, pay a bit of attention to the way stadiums look – they’re in tip top shape now, but before 1990 you would’ve been shocked at the way they looked.
In any case, those who enjoy watching live football online are in for a real treat this season, as only the best of the best will perform.
