Benitez: Xabi is still available for transfer

Date August 14, 2008

Liverpool, considered a formidable side by all clubs across the globe, has not been able to create an impact in the Barclays Premier league in recent years. Their supporters are eagerly awaiting their performance in this season.

Coach Rafael Benitez has made it very clear that Xabi Alonso may still be considered for transfer. It was also hinted that the club would finalize the deal only if the transfer brings in a mammoth offer for the player.

It is evident that if the transfer takes place, then Liverpool would be seen at a disadvantage in the beginning of the season, as all their players are unavailable for being on International duty.

To this, Benitez commented that his team may be losing a good player in the form of Alonso, but at the same time they are also looking forward to bring in another skilled player.

Benitez did not give out the name of the player, but mentioned that the player would be able to fill in three positions on the field. He stated that the player would be preferably playing on the left flank.

It is almost certain that the player he is talking about is the 28 year old Gareth Barry, who has the potential to play central midfield, left-back or left to central-midfield.

Benitez was found saying that he is trying to do the best thing possible for his club with the opportunities at hand. He seems unfazed by the pressure of expectation from Anfield fans, but looks to improve on his already impressive squad.
