Bayer Leverkusen went 3 points clear of now second placed Hamburg with a home win over Nurnberg. The 4-0 defeat, left Nurnberg with only 5 points from 9 league games this season. Hamburg will have a chance to get their pole position back by defeating bottom placed Hertha BSC by a margin of 3 goals tomorrow.
Bayern Munich continued their dismal performance this season with a 0-0 home draw against FC Cologne. Wolfsburg was playing their second away game this week against Bochum. The match ended in a 1-1 draw which saw Wolfsburg scoring a late equalizer in the 75th minute. Hannover thrashed Freiburg 5-2 to the delight of the home fans. After last week’s away loss to Bremen, Mainz won 2-1 at home against Hoffenheim. Monchengladbach was defeated 0-1 at home by Borussia Dortmund.
Ligue 1 too had a new team at the top of the table after Saint-Etienne shocked Bordeaux by defeating the leaders 3-1 at home. Olympique Lyon registered a 0-2 away win against Lens which sent them 1 point clear at the top with 20 points. Grenoble again failed to score any points as they lost 2-3 at home against Montpellier. Grenoble remains at the bottom of the table with 0 points after 8 Ligue 1 games.
Nice registered a 3-2 home win against Valenciennes. Nice was trailing Valenciennes by two goals in the 50th minute but a spectacular display of football saw Nice scoring 3 goals in a matter of 10 minutes. Auxerre and Sochaux registered home and away victories respectively against Rennes and Le Mans. Paris S.G. drew 1 – 1 against Nancy in front of home fans.
