Everton manager Moyes to continue at Goodison Park
August 4, 2008
Despite all sorts of reports claiming that Peter Moyes was about to quit his job at Everton United, the manager has shown a great deal of character to stay in spite of the problems the club is facing.
The Toffees are presently touring the United States as a part of their pre season schedule with a small squad. Their next match in the campaign is against Colorado Rapids on Sunday, before they come back home to Goodison Park.
Chief executive Keith Wyness quit yesterday, and the club lost their pre-season match against states side Chicago Fire 2-0 within hours of the departure, a match that witnessed teenager James Vaughan being sent off for a nasty tackle on a Fire player.
Moyes has been on this managerial post for the last six years.
With actually a very small squad in hindsight, the Merseysiders’ worries have only been intensified with no activity up to now in this almost concluded transfer window. Moyes himself has said that they have a paper-thin squad, and needed to sign at least 5-6 new players this season.
However, the Everton coach had some problems with the transfers that he is looking for. Neither he is ready to take average player in his squad nor does the club have financial scope of hiring high profile players. With other teams getting stronger by the moment, Moyes would be looking to get a rabbit out of the hat and make it big at Goodison Park, similar to what they showed in the early phase of previous season.
