Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand today stated that he was not exactly amused by the Red Devils’ performance on Saturday against a Liverpool side, who were without top players in their starting eleven. The game ended with a disappointing 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Anfield.
He said ‘I am not able to explain the good-for-nothing performance that the team put on in the crucial Northeast derby encounter. However, we will surely look forward to get things in the right order before the match against Chelsea this weekend’.
This defeat at the hands of Liverpool has ended United’s five win streak against them in the Premiership.
United started in a good fashion, and had the first goal of the match to their credit, when Carlos Tevez struck for good. However, they saw an equalizer thanks to a defensive lapse that made Van Der Sar push the ball to Wes Brown’s shin and it just went in, much to the amusement of home fans.
The second goal was scored by substitute Ryan Babel in the dying stages of the match.
Liverpool clinched all three points and United was deprived of the point that was theirs had the match been drawn.
Rio could not help himself saying that Liverpool was just ‘fortunate’ to score both their goals, but then quickly added that they must be quite happy with that only.
Meanwhile, goalie Tomasz Kuszczak has been given a two year contract extension at Man U, which will make him stay at Old Trafford at least till 2012.
