Man U confident of playing Berbatov at Old Trafford

July 19th, 2008

Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, is confident of getting Bulgarian goal-machine Dimitar Berbatov to play at Old Trafford in sometime, positively completing the transfer before this transfer window closes. The main cause of all this speculation about mere formalities, however, seems to be the motive to put an end on the widely media-covered C. Ronaldo saga.

The Scot, former manager of Scottish team Aberdeen, believes that the Bulgarian will be a great addition to their squad. He adds that ‘time is working for them rather against them’, and in pretext to this transfer bid from Tottenham, this somewhat indicates that the deal is not fully done yet!

United are having a pre-season tour of South Africa to be followed by Nigeria, the club’s fourth largest fan base.

They will play South African team Kaizer Chiefs tomorrow, to be followed by two more matches later and a friendly in Nigeria City Abuja with Portsmouth, a rehearsal for the Community Shield match to be held on August 10.

The club will start its title defense against Newcastle United, in what seems to be a ‘homecoming’ for injury affected players like Owen Hargreaves, Saha, Gary Neville and the post surgery recovering winger Christiano Ronaldo.

This pre-season tour will also be the test for new players like Jonny Evans and Frazer Campbell, along with Gary Neville, who has been out of play for the last sixteen months.

On their return to Old Trafford, they will have a five day spell of matches against Espanyol, Peterborough and Juventus.

Ronaldo out of action for twelve weeks

July 15th, 2008

Christiano Ronaldo, the star winger from Portugal, who is currently caught in a tug-of-war between two of the biggest clubs in the world, has an operation for his ankle injury incurred during the recently concluded Euro Cup. This surgery is likely to keep him out of action for at least the coming twelve weeks.

According to Portugal Soccer team physiotherapist Antonio Gasper, Ronaldo will not be able to hit the pitch before October, thanks to the operation he had to undergo for his right ankle. He added that the 23-year old will remain in his observation for about three weeks before doctors from Manchester United carry out further examination.

This news simply points out that C. Ronaldo will not be available to play for Manchester United in coming time. With the recent speculation on his transfer to Real Madrid, it seems difficult that the player will have the same old commitment for the club.

The possible question for the midfielder had once risen in 2006, when he and his Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney, who is also English forward, had a so called ‘scuffle’ during the World Cup encounter in Germany. He told a Spanish daily Marca then that he considered leaving United and joining Real Madrid.

Leaving the question of this unsuccessful transfer, ‘Twinkle toes’, as the winger is called due to his ingenious dribbling skills, seems to be fully optimistic regarding his rehabilitation. The two time PFA Players’ Player of the Year award winner has never failed impressing his audience, and even with his injury, he’s doing a great job.

Christiano Ronaldo: Bernabeu going to be his next stop ?

June 22nd, 2008

After a long debate over the future of Manchester United winger Christiano Ronaldo, it was revealed by him that he made a decision to move from the ‘Stadium of Dreams’ even before the final of Champions League to the Bernabeu. However, he did not reveal it so that the preparation of his side for the big game was not hampered.

According to a report in The Sun, it was confirmed that the Portuguese Star made his decision for realizing the dream of Dolores, his mother, who wanted her son to play in the Los Merengues, before the Red Devils defeated Chelsea for the crown.

Most experts feel that this will be a huge loss to the Red Devils, if and when he decides to move to Real Madrid. However, after yesterday’s comments on their refusal for putting him up for sale, this statement of Ronaldo could throw disappointment for his Scottish Coach Sir Alex Ferguson and his men. Sources even told that that the Scot and the Portuguese winger were going to have a meeting (one-on-one confrontation) in a short time for discussing his future with the club.

During an interview after Portuguese loss to the Germans, Ronaldo said that it was his national coach Scolari, who advised him to move to Madrid when he was playing an international friendly for his country. However, he cleared that although he will release a statement in a couple of days time in Old Trafford (where he will be having a surgery on his foot) about his personal viewpoint, his future is in the hand of others rather then his own.

Christiano Ronaldo: Manchester United not ready to sale their star winger

June 21st, 2008

There have been speculations from the past month over a possible move of the Portuguese and Manchester United Star Christiano Ronaldo to Spanish Giants Real Madrid. Now, with Inter Milan also joining the race for bidding on this wonderful gifted player, his current club has declared that the player is not available for anyone.

With a defeat against Germany, Ronaldo told the reporters in the post match interview that he will make the decision in the coming three days about his future with his current English club. He said that since his journey in the tournament, he will take sometime to make the final decision. He also made his strong desire to move to the Spanish Giants clear but confirmed that the eventual decision was not in his hands.

After the release of his statements in regards to the future, the Premier League & UEFA Champions League winners, United, denied any desire to put the 23-year old master winger on sale. They feel that he is an integral part of the team and putting him up on the transfer board is out of question. However with a heavy bid on cards from Real Madrid and his failure in putting up the commitment towards United, there is every possibility of Ronaldo leaving the Red Devils den for good.

Everyone, from Real Madrid to Manchester United, will be eagerly awaiting the Portuguese Player to come up and speak in their favor in the coming days, as they know that he has the magic to turn the tide in their favor at any given stage of a football game.

Christiano Ronaldo: Inter also showing interest in United’s Star Winger

There has been a lot of speculation over the future of Manchester United and Portugal star, Christiano Ronaldo. There has been a rife all through this summer for the current FIFA Player of the Year. However, the major focus has tilted upon the debate in between Real Madrid and Manchester United, his current club.

Now there is another twist in the tale, as yet another European Club is seemingly in the race for this wonderful winger from Portugal.

Jose Mourinho, new manager of Inter Milan, is sure to start the coming season with some fresh faces and has Deco (Barcelona), Didier Drogba (Chelsea) & Frank Lampard (Chelsea) topping his wish list. Inter Manager might also add the name of the Portuguese winger, if the club will be offered big money from Nerazzuri, which has been in the news for long. However, it seems unlikely for him to sign the player, as Spanish Giants clear desire for him.

The only advantage with Mourinho is that he shares the same agent with Ronaldo, Jorges Mendes, who might simplify negotiations between Star of Old Trafford & former boss of Chelsea. Again, there are reports that both of them share respect for one another, which might encourage the move.

Manchester United is continuing to fervently deny their willingness for selling him. Still, with the massive bid from Real Madrid going along with another one from Inter Milan, it is very much unlikely to see Christiano Ronaldo in the Red Devil’s jersey this season.

2008 UEFA Champions League Final – Manchester united vs Chelsea: Match of the Year

UEFA Champions League is believed to be the greatest football tournament of Europe with the best clubs of all European countries fighting it out for claiming the top spot in the continent. This year, two of the best clubs in UK and probably Europe, Manchester United and Chelsea, fought in the final at Moscow.

This was yet another enthralling encounter between these two giants, who had saw each other thrice before this match and were even on all grounds. With the Premier League in their pocket and an impressive outing in the Champions, Manchester United had the advantage. Still, Chelsea was not going to surrender easy

Manchester United dominated the first half with Christiano Ronaldo scoring within 30 minutes. However, Chelsea struck back with a goal from Frank Lampard going pass the outstretched hands of Edwin Van der Sar in the late moments.

Second half saw the United defense tumbling and the tide turned towards Chelsea for most parts. There were many opportunities missed by the latter, which could have sealed the game. However, the game moved into extra time with both teams tied 1-1.

It was visible that the situation was tensed in extra time and when Carlos Tevez through the ball out of hands, situation went out of hand. In a heated confrontation, Didier Drogba, star Chelsea striker, slapped Nemanja Vidic and was sent off. This was the probable turning point of the game, as he had been responsible for a late strike in another encounter between the two.

With no result possible even in extra time, the match went down to penalty shootouts and when Christiano Ronaldo missed a penalty, it spelled doom for United. However, with courageous goalkeeping by Van der Sar, who saved shots from John Terry, Mr. Chelsea, and Nicholas Anelka, along with brilliant penalties taken from United players, they did the inevitable and became the Champions of both UK and Europe.

Although United won, football, as a sport, was victorious. There is no doubt that until now, it is the ‘Match of the Year’.
