Ferguson still gunning for Berbatov

August 14th, 2008

Sir Alex Ferguson, coach of the Red Devils, has not given up on improving his star studded team.

Defending Champions of the Premier League and the European Champions League, Manchester United club with their coach are looking forward to sign in another striker. To this one can simply question, “How many more do they want?”

Devils are looking to sign the Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov, who is currently playing for Tottenham Hotspurs.

In the race to sign over Berbatov, Sir Alex has been pushed further to up his original bid of US$44 million. Even at this cost, the Scot’s hope is still alive.

Though Tottenham wants nearly US$60 million, the Manchester coach says that his hopes are not dead yet and they will fight hard to get their man.

The board is still exploring three or four different opportunities regarding their department of strikers and is hoping that they would reach a healthy conclusion benefitting both the club and the players.

The coach is hopeful that they would definitely have someone in before the start of the season. The Devils are looking to hold on to their title without fail. These aggressions towards transfer and convincing Ronaldo to stay back surely point out to that direction.

The Berbatov transfer has become a pretty feature for the upcoming season. Even the Spurs coach admitted that he was uncertain over the player’s stay in his squad at the start of the season.

Levy also thinks that Berbatov might move onto Manchester this season. A strike line, if everything goes accordingly, consisting of Rooney, Tevez, Berbatov and Ronaldo might be too much to handle for any opponent.

Spurs to revitalize squad with fresh faces

August 10th, 2008

Tottenham Hotspur, the London club, which was the first in the 20th century to win the league and FA Cup double, has set not one or two, but three transfer targets this summer to revitalize their squad with Robbie Keane leaving for Liverpool and Dimitar Berbatov almost confirmed for a ticket to Old Trafford.

Spurs boss Juande Ramos has set transfer targets in Euro 2008 hero Andrei Arshavin, EURO 2008 Golden Boot winner David Villa and Croatia right back Vedran Corluka. All three of them are in the middle of all the ongoing transfer rumors this preseason.

Tottenham have lost a key player in Robbie Keane to Liverpool for 20 million pounds. They are about to bid farewell to Bulgarian striker and four-time Bulgarian Player of the Year, Dimitar Berbatov, to Manchester United for a possible 30 million deal. Both the amounts will be accounting for the three transfers to be executed.

Arshavin has been linked to a move to the Premiership ever since his smashing performances at the Euro 08, and clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal were rumored to have made bids for the star.

EL Guage (the ‘kid’) David Villa won the Golden Boot for scoring the maximum number of goals in EURO 2008. His agent has said that Villa enjoys being in London and loves the way Juande Ramos manages his squad!

The Lilywhites have already got seven new players this season for a net total of about 20 million pounds. They boast of a big squad with players fighting for each of the positions in the formation.

These new buys, if completed, will surely set the momentum for the whole of the coming season(s)!

Blatter denies comparing Ronaldo to a ‘modern slave’

August 2nd, 2008

FIFA President Sepp Blatter, who last month said that there was an increasing trend of ‘modern slavery’ in the football world in recent times, today refused having compared Portugal international and Manchester United player, Christiano Ronaldo, to a ‘slave’.

Presently out on a trip to Vietnam, the controversial President insisted that he never said Ronaldo was a slave.

Blatter tried to avoid being questioned further by saying that he had talked about slavery, but that was regarding the recent practice by many clubs to catch players young, at ages of 13-14 years and keeping them.

Ronaldo’s club, Manchester United, also have a youth academy, where players are trained from 9 years onwards up to the flagship 18 years, having many players, who have won international caps at under-14 and 16 levels.

FIFA President at that time was even backed by Ronaldo, who said he believed what Blatter said was right. However, now Blatter has flatly refused to agree having said anything about the winger and ‘slavery’, saying the press has jumped to immature conclusions.

If Man U manager Sir Alex Ferguson’s angle is to be seen, the Scotsman will be more than happy. The manager, who has spent well above two decades at Old Trafford, accused Real Madrid for their ‘illegal’ pursuit of Ronaldo, before being accused of similar acts by Tottenham Hotspur for his comments about buying Bulgarian international Dimitar Berbatov.

Talking of things at Manchester United, Owen Hargreaves today said that the team is fully fit and raring to go and fight for defending their success in the English as well as the European platforms.

Keane confident of doing well in tandem with Torres

July 31st, 2008

After his long awaited and widely rumoured transfer to Liverpool, former Spurs’ player Robbie Keane has stated that he will love playing alongside Spanish goal machine Fernando Torres.

Keane is twenty eight years of age and is the captain of the Irish football team, and has been signed for 20 million pounds at Anfield.

He said after his successful medical at the club’s training ground that he will love to have a strong partnership with Torres, who was the hero of the just concluded Euro Cup, helping the team to win in the finals against Germany.

Tottenham have now lost one of their star attractions in Keane, the other being four-time Bulgarian player of the year, Dimitar Berbatov, who for most of this transfer season has been an element of curiosity for Manchester United.

Keane now maintains that he has been a life long supporter of Liverpool, and hopes to end their title drought which has now spanned to 18 years. The last time Liverpool won a trophy was back in 1990.

Keane is now expected by the Liverpool manager Rafael Banitez to play as a man behind Torres or as a right winger. This decision can cause a bit of stir considering that the last time he tried this was on Dirk Kyut, and the experiment backfired.

Banitez seems to be truly inspired by the striker’s ability to score goals and play intelligently, which has been dubbed as ‘selfish’ by many critics.

Tottenham Hotspur seems to have gotten wind of this transfer early on, and that is evident from the long list of buys they have had this season.

Other high profile transfers from the Spurs’ side include loaning out of defender Anthony Gardner to newly promoted side Hull and talks over England midfielder David Bently with Blackburn Rovers.

Ferguson adamant on Berbatov for Old Trafford

July 13th, 2008

Sir Alex Ferguson seems to be quite adamant for his new target, Bulgarian international and Tottenham Hotspur player, Dimitar Berbatov. If reports are to be believed, Manchester United has made an official bid worth $ 39.7 million to the Spurs for the player.

The Scotsman thinks that Berbatov will prove to be the perfect support to an already smashing attack comprising of Wayne Rooney, the England international and Carlos Tevez, Argentinean magician.

Spurs’ boss Juande Ramos will be surely unwilling to let his prized possession go away, but needs to have a check put on the club’s budget, and maybe this is the only way. Berbatov has also expressed his desire to win some more trophies before it is too late, and has been in talks with Chelsea and AC Milan prior to this.

And of course, the ex-CSKA Sofia and Bayer Leverkusen star along with four-time Bulgarian Player of the Year may be the perfect addition to the Old Trafford squad, which won the UEFA Champions League final in Moscow against Chelsea just weeks before.

Manchester United fans are scared that if the club is willing to buy Berbatov, then Christaino Ronaldo may be likely to go to Real Madrid.

The Ronaldo debate has got many influential personalities to put forward their views on the trend of ‘modern slavery’ in football, including FIFA president Step Blatter and Brazilian great Pele, who said that a player is a slave, if he does not get a salary or has no contract. Brazilian star also added that Ronaldo should see out the rest of his contract with United.

Now whether or not Ronaldo leaves for Bernabeu, Berbatov seems all set to come to Old Trafford for making an impact in the ‘Theatre of Dreams’.
