Sylvinho returns to England

August 24th, 2009

Brazilian defender Sylvinho, who helped Barcelona clinch the Treble last year has agreed to play for Manchester City this year. Although it’s a free transfer, and the contract is for only a year, signing Sylvinho gives City the much needed experience in their defense. City had already signed the likes of Tevez from Manchester United, Adebayor and Toure from Arsenal and Gareth Barry from Aston Villa. These signings makes City’s attack dangerous but this wasn’t enough until they add some experience in their defense, and Sylvinho certainly fits in perfectly.

The last match Sylvinho played for Barca was the Champions League final against English champions Manchester United. Sylvinho played the full 90 minutes of the game and saw him tackling the likes of Ronaldo, Rooney, Berbatov and Tevez effectively. Sylvinho has already played in England. In 1999 he joined Arsenal, and became the first Brazilian to do so. He did well the first season but eventually lost his place to Ashley Cole, the next season. This made him leave the club in 2001 for a Spanish second division Celta Di Vigo before joining Barcelona in 2004.

Manchester City now looks a complete team which has a mix of creativity and experience in their players. It all depends on Mark Hughes now to get the best out of his players and ensure that Sylvinhos addition is used to optimum. Everyone will be waiting to see how well the team gets along now and what newer moves they can try having signed on a strong name in defense.

Rumors are Kaka’s source of inspiration

July 25th, 2008

AC Milan’s 26 year old star, Kaka is not worried about speculations regarding his future. Of late, he has been linked with a change to Chelsea football club. However, the Brazilian playmaker seems to be home at AC Milan.

According to several club officials, Kaka, who is one of the most important members of the San Siro club, is not at all angry over the various rumors relating his move.

According to few close sources of Kaka, he is using those rumors for motivation, as he considers them to be positive signs about his game play giving him inspiration to improve his game even more.

Ronaldinho, who has recently moved to AC Milan from Barcelona, would improve clubs dominance in various tournaments. The Milan fans can be rest assured of an exciting prospect of watching the two Brazilian teammates at San Siro.

According to Ancelotti with Ronaldinho’s arrival, the Milan camp has started brimming with energy and has become very enthusiastic. The club officials are looking forward for a great display of football from both Ronaldinho and Kaka upfront. They are also confident that both the players would benefit from each others game that would help the club in getting success.

Kaka, who recently underwent a knee operation, has recovered well from the operation. He has even started pre-season training quite a few days back, as he will not be competing for Brazil at the Olympics.

According to Ancelotti, Kaka is training with the group and looks perfectly recovered from the operation that took place in the end of last season.

Advocaat: Arshavin set to leave Zenit St Petersburg

July 8th, 2008

Various reports claim that the 27-year old Russian striker Andrei Arshavin, who can play as a winger and target man, is ready to jump to English Premiership or at least waiting for an opportunity in the coming time to do so, according to a statement released by his current coach coach Dick Advocaat.

These speculations arose in the recently concluded European Championships, when Russian side, which was tagged as a dark horse in the tournament, defeated teams like Netherlands, Sweden and the defending champions Greece and made their way into the final four. A great role in Russia’s success was played by the previously unknown commodity Arshavin, who scored goals against Sweden and Netherlands.

Advocaat has said that he himself suggested the star player to stop playing for Zenit St Petersburg for a while, so that he can decide his future. With talks to be held with Chelsea and Arsenal, he fully understood the Russian Star’s decision to leave and that the club will never come in between.

While it seems unlikely in any case that the Russian player of the season will dawn Zenit colours this season, his statement regarding an approach by Spanish giant Barcelona about a fortnight ago can only add to all the ongoing rumors.

Now, every European football fan will be hoping to see one of their nation’s clubs giving an opportunity to this sensation, as he will surely be instrumental in the coming season carrying his great form from the Championships.

Christiano Ronaldo

Christiano Ronaldo: Inter also showing interest in United’s Star Winger

There has been a lot of speculation over the future of Manchester United and Portugal star, Christiano Ronaldo. There has been a rife all through this summer for the current FIFA Player of the Year. However, the major focus has tilted upon the debate in between Real Madrid and Manchester United, his current club.

Now there is another twist in the tale, as yet another European Club is seemingly in the race for this wonderful winger from Portugal.

Jose Mourinho, new manager of Inter Milan, is sure to start the coming season with some fresh faces and has Deco (Barcelona), Didier Drogba (Chelsea) & Frank Lampard (Chelsea) topping his wish list. Inter Manager might also add the name of the Portuguese winger, if the club will be offered big money from Nerazzuri, which has been in the news for long. However, it seems unlikely for him to sign the player, as Spanish Giants clear desire for him.

The only advantage with Mourinho is that he shares the same agent with Ronaldo, Jorges Mendes, who might simplify negotiations between Star of Old Trafford & former boss of Chelsea. Again, there are reports that both of them share respect for one another, which might encourage the move.

Manchester United is continuing to fervently deny their willingness for selling him. Still, with the massive bid from Real Madrid going along with another one from Inter Milan, it is very much unlikely to see Christiano Ronaldo in the Red Devil’s jersey this season.

Giovanni Dos Santos Agrees Spurs move

Barcelona starlet Giovanni Dos Santos has decided to move onto the English Premier League in a 6 million Euro move from Catalan giants Barcelona. The Mexican who was said to be disturbed by the rather persistent booing by sections of Nou Camp at the end of last season will finalise further details this coming week and joins a long legion of young stars from La Masia the Barcelona training ground, he been enticed by first team action and the big money in the English game.

Dos Santos aged 19 was fast forwarded into the Barcelona senior squad after some impressive showing in the Barcelona-B team and the Under-19 world cup last year. The Mexican starlet was hyped up to be Ronaldinho’s eventual replacement in Blaugrana colours. However, Giovanni did find the going tough in a miserable season for Barcelona and although he did end the season with a hat trick, questions were raised about his attitude and ability. Giovanni is also said to be perturbed having fallen behind in the ranks at Barcelona with teenager Bojan starting more games ahead of him in a frustrating season.

This signing is Spur’s second major signing of the season having signed Luka Modric for an estimated $30 million earlier this summer. Spurs won their first silverware in many a season last with the Carling Cup success and with Juande Ramos looking to make a full fledged assault on the top four of English football, expect more signings at the White Hart lane as the summer draws on.
