The game of the day takes place at White Hart Lane on Saturday, as Harry Redknapp’s high flying Spurs side take on Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United team in what promises to be an epic battle. Tottenham have made their best ever start to a Premier League season, recording four wins from their first four games. The above mentioned home victory against Liverpool took place on the opening day, and was followed up by victories at Hull (5-1), West Ham (2-1) and then at home again 2-1 against Birmingham City. It remains to be seen whether the enforced international break came at a bad time for the Spurs team, or whether they can continue where they left off a couple of weeks ago.

Sir Alex’s side have made a stuttering start to their season, at least form wise anyway, although they have notched up three victories from four games. Their rather fortuitous first day home victory against Birmingham City by 1-0 was followed up by the surprise result of the season so far when they travelled to Turf Moor and lost 1-0 to Burnley.

Normal service was resumed in the following match away to Wigan when they ran in five goals against the hapless home side, and last time out they entertained Arsenal at Old Trafford, eventually winning 2-1 despite falling behind in the score and not playing particularly well.

Saturday’s match promises to be a great spectacle full of passion and endeavour, with both teams fighting hammer and tong for the three points.

Will Manchester City enter top four in England

September 3rd, 2009

After spending £118 million this summer, Manchester City has kind of announced that they are serious contenders for this year’s title. But spending money is different than building a team. Though they have got the some of the best players available in the game, it will be interesting to see if City can even break the Premier League top 4 dead lock.

So far City has won all the three games they have played. But the next two matches will probably decide whether Manchester City is an actual contender. Their next two matches will be against Arsenal and Champions Manchester United back to back.

The start of the season saw Liverpool losing two games of the four they played. Pundits have already written off Liverpool’s chances of winning the title this year. Arsenal’s perfect start to the season was ruined by Manchester United when the latter defeated the former by 2-1 at Old Trafford. This left Arsenal with 6 points from three games.

Chelsea look good to go and win trophies this season but they have been banned by FIFA according to which they will not be able to sign any new player for the entire 2010 calendar year.

The only team that lack depth in the squad this season is Liverpool. After losing their star midfielder Xabi Alonso, the reds have found themselves pondering over the field without any game plan. So according to most it will be Benitez’s red army that will be toppled by Hughes’s blue army of Manchester.

Updates from Premier League

September 2nd, 2009

On its last day, the transfer window saw Everton successfully sign 25 year old Dutch footballer John Heitinga. A regular in the Dutch national side, Heitinga signed a five year deal with the blue side of Merseyside on 1st September. He selected the no 5 jersey which was previously worn by Joleon Lescott who left the club last month and joined Manchester City. Everton Have reported paid £6.2m to Atletico Madrid for the Dutch defender.

Manchester United’s wonder kid, Macheda who rose to fame after his 93rd minute winner against Aston Villa in a league game has again expressed his desire to return to his home country Italy.

26 year old Swedish striker, David Elm has successfully signed a one year contract with Premier League old timers Fulham for a reported fee of £500,000.

It is still not clear whether Portsmouth have signed 28 year old Aston Villa left back Nicky Shorey. Though, sky sports claims that the deal has completed successfully before the transfer window closed.

Finnish footballer Teemu Tainio will play the new season with newly promoted Birmingham City. Teemu joined City from Sunderland on loan.

Newly signed Niko Kranjcar of Tottenham Hotspur has revealed that he was also approached by Everton, before signing for Spurs from Portsmouth for a reported fee of £2.5 million.

The summer transfers saw Manchester City as the biggest spender in England as they approximately spent £120 million after deducting the money gained from selling five of its players for a seven figure price tag. Manchester United were seen the biggest gainers as they sold their star player Ronaldo for £80 million.

Spanish La Liga Begins

September 1st, 2009

Real Madrid manager, Manuel Pellegrini started with as many as seven new players. All the high profile signings featured in the match against Deportivo La Coruna. Deportivo almost shocked the costliest team in the world but Real survived the scare and Diarra scored a super goal in the 60th minute to drive past Deportivo. The match also saw a goal from ex Manchester United player Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo scored a penalty after Raul was brought down in the penalty area and that’s just what was expected. Everyone go their money’s worth watching Ronaldo score at his Real debut.
Other results saw Real Zaragoza winning 1-0 against Tenerife, Almeria drawing 0-0 against Valladolid, Valencia winning 2-0 against Sevilla, Osasuna drawing 1-1 against Villarreal, Malaga winning 3-0 against Atletico Madrid, Mallorca winning 2-0 against Xerez, Athletic Bilbao winning 1-0 against Espanyol and Racing Santander was the only team in the league losing in front of their home fans 1-4 against Getafe.
The last match of the week saw Barcelona beginning to defend their league title at Camp Nou with a 3-0 win against Sporting Gijon. The match also saw summer signing, Zlatan Ibrahimovich scoring a goal for Barcelona at his league debut. Bojan began the goal scoring with a goal in the 18th minute. This was followed by Keita’s in the 42nd minute, which made it 2-0 at half time. Zlatan added a third in the 82nd minute to end the night with a 3-0 victory. Messi was rested for the match whereas Henry started as a substitute for tonight’s fixture.

Red Devils dampen the Gunners winning streak

August 30th, 2009

The big game of the day saw the Gunners visiting Old Trafford. The match started a little slow as expected, but it was not late for it to pick up pace. In the 39th minute Arshavin was fouled by Fletcher in the penalty area, but referee Dean overlooked and strangely, no one appealed. A minute later, little man from Russia, Arshavin scored past Foster from 25 yards silencing Old Trafford. The second half saw a composed side. In the 59th minute Rooney was fouled by Arsenal keeper Almunia, and awarded a penalty which he conveniently converted making the score 1-1.

5 minutes later Diaby headed in his own net from a Ryan Giggs free kick which saw Old Trafford celebrate. Since that second goal, Arsenal became disorganized and allowed United to counter on many occasions. Berbatov and Nani each should have scored for the kind of chances they got. Later in injury time, Rooney gave away possession, as if he was passing the ball to his own team mate and Persie made the most of that courtesy by scoring a goal.

The goal was disallowed due to its offside status which left a celebrating Wenger furious at the officials. He was later asked to leave the pitch by the fourth official. The match ended 2-1 to Manchester United. The win left the champions at 3rd place in the league table.

Elsewhere in the premier league Blackburn drew 0-0 against West Ham United. Stoke continued their campaign with a win over Sunderland and Wolverhampton drawing 1-1 at home against Hull city.

Before last weekend’s rout of Wigan at the DW (formerly JJB) Stadium, United hadn’t been playing with their usual pizzazz or verve, with many footballing “experts” questioning the wisdom of selling both Ronaldo and Tevez.

When they lost the Charity Shield to Chelsea a couple of weeks ago, the doom-mongers where predicting all sorts to go wrong for the Red Devils, and the first couple of games of the new Premier League season seemed to give credence to these mutterings. But cometh the hour, cometh the team and Sir Alex Ferguson’s men put on a devastating second half performance against Wigan to not only prove all the doubters wrong, but to also give Arsenal something to ponder.

Arsene Wenger’s side, fresh from Champions League success, head to the north-west intent on resurrecting the Manchester United doom theories, and if any team can accomplish this, then surely it has to be the Gunners?
One thing is for sure though, the game promises to be one to savour, so all those who can sit and watch it on TV on Saturday evening, should.

Argentina’s Carlos Tevez Will Be Playing For Man City

August 13th, 2009

Argentina’s Carlos Tevez Will Be Playing For Man City

The wealthy Eastlands club (Manchester City) have signed on former Manchester United’s forward striker Carlos Tevez and speculations indicate that Tevez may not be the only high profile player being signed on to Manchester City. Talks are being held to acquire John Terry who happens to be Chelsea’s captain as well as Arsenal’s striker, Emmanuel Adebayor.

Carlos Tevez seems to be happier at Manchester City and this he communicated through an interpreter. He is quoted having said the following after signing what is believed to be a five-year contract with Man City, “I was there [Manchester United] for two years and Sir Alex never called or sent me any text messages in that time.” His remarks seemed heartfelt and albeit bitter, continuing to say that there wasn’t really much communication with him while in the club and that was no way to treat a player who’s been there for two years. He however thanked the entire Manchester United Club and the fan base for his time there.

Mark Hughes, City’s manager admittedly said that having the 25 year old Argentinean on the team was a great value added and they would pose a great challenge in the coming season. Hughes however refused to comment about plans of acquiring other high profile players for the club, stating that “it’s not the place, nor time – to discuss players they haven’t signed on yet.”

All people can do is wait and see what will become of the aspiring club!

Will Adebayor Exit Emirates Stadium?

August 13th, 2009

Will Adebayor Exit Emirates Stadium?

After the acquisition of Roque Santa Cruz and former Man-U’s forward striker Carlos Tevez, Mark Hughes, Manchester City’s manager seems to be on a roll and unstoppable as he seeks to revolutionize the club by signing on Arsenal’s ‘hit man’ Emmanuel Adebayor.

After his 30 goal spree in the 2007 – 2008 season, the Togolese international player became the most in-demand striker with clubs such as AC Milan and Barcelona offering bids as high as £30 million!! His failure this past season to perform an encore with such goals may see him exiting the Emirates Stadium.
Reports claim that Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger is more than willing to let the striker join the Manchester City club, proving that Arsenal might be more receptive to selling him now (before summer) than would have been in the 2008 – 2009 season.

Mark Hughes seems highly in demand for the £22 million-rated striker’s services as he sees a lot of potential in the 25-year old targetman. The Daily Mail speculates that the temperamental aspect of the former African player as well as his unruly behavior both on the pitch and in the dressing room might have resulted to his downfall and faded goodwill he once held in the fans.

All the same, his transfer to City would result in a great hope for him and the Man-City revolution.
Arsene Wenger would be able to use the price tag to acquire some of his new selection resulting in a
win-win situation if you may.

The deal is almost sealed!

Man Utd never made an offer for David Santon

July 13th, 2009

ManUtd has never made an offer for the Inter’s defender David Santon as far the agent is concerned. The clubs representative has down played the speculations after David Santon signed the new deal with Nerazzurri in 9th July 2009.

Reports in Italy and England had linked David Santon to the EPL following Santon’s impressive maiden in the season’s Serie A. The foot ball club Nerazzurri was pretty quick in stamping the hallmark on the player and keeping the player at the club by offering the player with a new lucrative deal up to 2014. Here the player has signed on different terms as the wages as raised from 100,000 Euros per year to one million Euros a year.

Renzo Contratto the agent of Santon insists that Man Utd never made serious engagements regarding the move even the speculations were moving around.

The agent said that, saying that there is something very concrete at this point of time is absolutely false. The agent again told that there was no concrete offer from Manu Utd as well.

He told that he was thinking that it was just a transfer market rumour and now Santon has signed a deal with Inter and he’s pretty happy with that.

Ferguson: No plan to retire in the near future

March 19th, 2009

Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United Boss, is not having any plans of calling time on his illustrious career in the immediate future.

Ferguson, who is widely recognized across the globe for being one of the greatest mangers in the game, has been toiling hard for the Red Devils since November 1986.

The wily Scot has accumulated an astonishing haul, when it comes to domestic & continental glories, in a career that has spanned 22 years. Even though he is in the latter part of his career, Ferguson is in no mood to leave the confident United dugout.

Red Devils have already won the Carling Cup & FIFA Club World Cup this season. They are even hot favorites for many to retain the League Title making it three in a row and eighteen overall.

His side has also advanced to the semifinal stage of the FA Cup where they will clash with Everton and are also in the last eight of the Champions League.

Even though he is not confident of seeing Manchester United achieve an unprecedented quintuple, his passion towards the game has not dimmed.

On being asked with regards to his retirement, Sir Alex Ferguson told The Guardian, ‘Not in the near future. Even though I am 67, I can feel the energy within me and even my health is good.’

‘I still have that energy, which was there when I started 22 years back. I can still hear the buzz arrive in our training ground.’

‘There is still that tingle of excitement in me when our team bus stops on away ground before every big match, whether it’s Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal.’

‘I do not know where I will stop, 2 years or even after that, but I hope to continue till I can feel the passion within me.’
