Manny Has Everything To Lose Against Mosley
While the whole world waits for the legendary match-up between boxing superstars, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, it may be comforting to some that at least Manny Pacquiao gets to show the whole world again why he is the undisputed number one pound for pound by getting it in the ring against Shane Mosley.
Why Mosley?
News of this bout was unwelcome in the boxing community during its announcement and many boxing critics have slammed Pacquiao for the move knowing Mosley is far past his prime. At this point, the best thing that could happen to boxing is a fight between the two giants – Pacquiao and Mayweather. Sadly, Pacquiao’s refusal of undergoing Olympic drug testing after being accused of PEDs and Mayweather’s other antics including his legal problems have derailed the fight.
Many question why Mosley was chosen instead of other more powerful opponents, however, Arum and his wards maintain that this was necessary because no other opponent could reel in as much profit as Mosley can. In reality, this does hold true and ordinary boxing fans can do nothing about this as Mosley is undoubtedly the most marketable fighter among the list of Pacquiao’s next worthy opponents minus of course, Mayweather who has proved to be stubborn in the negotiation tables.

The PacMan, a Clear Favorite
With the fight happening in less than 48 hours from now, it has become clear that Pacquiao will emerge as the clear favorite seeing as to how betting stations have shown him favored 7 to 1. Many believe it will not be a question of who wins but what round will we be seeing the KO by Pacquiao.
At present, the probability of Mosley beating the odds and winning against Pacquiao seems to be nonexistent. Boxing analysts and fellow boxers remain hopeful though that the fight still becomes exciting after seeing how Mosley fought in his last fight against fellow American Sergio Mora. In that fight late last year, he was statistically superior against his younger and more agile foe but unanimous decision by the end of the bout declared the result to be a draw.
Roids and PEDs
One interesting thing to note about both fighters is how they were involved in performance drugs-related issues in the past.
Mosley was involved in the publicized investigation regarding BALCO Labs where it was known that the boxer used two designer steroids nicknamed “the cream” and “the clear”. However, Mosley insists that he never knew what the substances were thinking instead that they were vitamins.
Pacquiao on the other hand, has long been accused by the Mayweathers of using Performance Enhancing Drugs. There has been no evidence of this accusation and the only explanation Pacquiao’s detractors have regarding this issue is Pacquiao’s rise in the weight tables while improving significantly in strength and power. However, it is quite amusing to note that comparing both Mayweather and Pacquiao’s performance while rising in weight in the past up until now are very similar.
It is no question that Mosley will be retiring sooner than Pacquiao and Pacquiao’s recent lists of boxing accomplishments will pressure him into trying his best to win. Having said that, it is evident that Mosley has nothing to lose but everything to gain considering the amount he will be getting. This does not discount the fact however that we are better off enjoying this bout than watching nothing at all.
