Liverpool may stop chasing for Barry

Date August 20, 2008

Although the Reds beat Sunderland 1-0 in their opening game of the season, their coach, Rafael Benitez, did not seem to be ecstatic. Still, most experts felt that it was a good game and Liverpool players did well to keep a clean sheet to start with.

Now Liverpool has 3 points to their name after the win and will be looking for the next game in hand.

The only concern for the coach could be that the team should have performed much aggressive football against Sunderland. According to reports, he was seemingly unhappy about the way his team is going.

Meanwhile, it seems that the hopes of Benitez to get Barry would be put back onto the shelves for another season because the owners do not seem too eager to proceed.

It has been confirmed that the owners of the Liverpool Football Club, George Gillet and Tom Hicks, have made it clear to coach Benitez that there would be no more of chasing Barry.

Gillet and Hicks are saying that that the price for Barry is too high. They seem adamant of not sanctioning the amount Aston Villa is asking for.

Moreover, the owners further stressed that there was absolutely no need for selling Alonso, whose hopes relied more on this deal than anything else. Maybe now it is a good time for Alonso to prove the club owners right.

Benitez, who had been in hot pursuit of Barry throughout the summer, was looking to obtain a versatile player, who could switch positions in between the midfield and defense. Having his plans thwarted, maybe he would try his luck somewhere else.
