July 12, 2008
Arsenal have got a new attacking midfielder in the form of French international Samir Nasri from French club Marseille for a fee of 12 million pounds. The 2007 French Ligue 1 player of the year is said to be more than happy to be at his new club.
Nasri, the one-time winner of UEFA European u-17 Cup and Intertoto Cup and two time Coupe de France runners up with Marseille, is Arsenal’s second addition in this transfer season, after Aaron Ramsey from Cardiff City.
The 21-year old, who was also the Fans’ Player of the Year 2007, has been a part of the French National Team system, since he was 14. He was the youngest player in the French squad participating in EURO 2008.
Gunners’ manager Arsene Wenger believes that Nasri will make a quality addition to the Emirates Stadium, as he is young, quick and technically outstanding player.
Nasri, who is set to join the squad from July 21, to go for the team’s pre-season tour of Austria, said that it was a very important step in his life. He hoped everything to go well in the club with him and was honored to be a part of such a great football club.
The midfield maestro revealed that Wenger’s reputation to nurture and develop talent had a great part in his transfer along with advice from former Gunners members Thierry Henry and Patrick Viera, who also hailed from France.
The young playmaker is looking forward to integrate himself in the club quite quickly and bring all that he can to the club and its fans.
