Italian Serie A ~ Watch Live Football Article
For those of you soccer fans out there I'm sure your familiar with then Italian Serie A but for those of you who aren't I will explain a bit about it. Italy's highest football league and top division of the Italian Football League is The Serie A. Along with the English Premier, and the Spanish La Liga the Serie A is referred to as one of the best soccer leagues in the world. The official name of the Serie A is the Serie A TIM which is named after its biggest sponsor the Italian Mobile Phone Company.
Since the 2004 and 2005 season there has been twenty clubs in the Serie A. In the season which begins in August and ends in May, each club plays the others twice. One will take place at their home stadium. The second will take place at their opponents home stadium. This will total thirty eight clubs for each club and three hundred eighty games per season. The format round-robin is used in Italian Football. The seasons first half known as the "andata" will have each team play one time against all opponents, which will total nineteen games. The second half in the season which is referred to as the "ritorno" , will have each team repeat the first half which means they will play the same opponents in the exact same order as before. The difference will be that that the places they are played will be switched meaning the second game will be an away game instead of being played in the home stadium. Each team will play somewheres other than their home stadium in the second round.
Each team will be given 3 points for each win and 1 point for each draw. No points are given for a loss. Playoff was always used if teams ended the season having the same amount of points. This is also referred to as "Spareggio". Playoffs were done away with in the 2005 - 2006 season.Teams are now ranked by total point with a table that only one on one results between the different teams with the same total points will be considered used to separate teams on equal points. If two teams or more have the same total points goal difference will be used to divide them. The teams that are placed the three lowest will be relegated in the Serie B. For those who want to qualify for the UEFA Champions league must rank in the top four of the Serie A. The two top teams will directly advance into the group phase. In order for the third and fourth placed teams to enter the group phase they will enter the competition at the third qualifying round in its vital that they win a tie. UEFA Cup Tournament qualifications will automatically be rewarded to those teams that finish in fifth and sixth place. Another UEFA Cup spot is reserved for whoever wins the Italian Cup. But if both of the Italian Cup winners have previously qualified for the UEFA Champions League then the seventh classified team will be given the spot.
